Top 5 Maps and Navigation Apps in Africa Q3 2021 Performance

In the third quarter of 2021, the Maps and Navigation app market in Africa showed dynamic performance across the top five applications. Here's a detailed look at the trends in downloads and active users for each app, based on data from Sensor Tower.

inDrive. Save on city rides saw a notable fluctuation in weekly downloads, starting the quarter at approximately 194K and dipping to around 153K in mid-July. However, by the end of September, the app experienced a resurgence, reaching about 203K downloads. Weekly active users also showed a positive trend, increasing from around 663K at the beginning of the quarter to nearly 890K by the end.

Bolt: Request a Ride demonstrated a consistent rise in weekly downloads, starting at approximately 164K and peaking at around 193K by the end of the quarter. Active users for Bolt also increased, starting from roughly 2.1M and reaching over 2.3M by late September.

Uber - Request a ride maintained a steady download rate, with weekly downloads fluctuating between approximately 90K and 107K. The active user base showed slight variations, starting the quarter at around 3.1M and ending at approximately 3M.

DiDi Rider: Affordable rides experienced significant growth in downloads, especially in August and September, with weekly downloads rising from around 25K at the beginning of the quarter to over 131K by the end. The app's active user base also surged, growing from approximately 71K to over 316K by the end of September.

Finally, Bolt Driver: Drive & Earn saw a steady increase in weekly downloads, starting at around 38K and peaking at approximately 70K in mid-September. Active users for Bolt Driver also showed growth, starting the quarter at around 282K and reaching over 336K by mid-September.
